Most people think that drinking alcohol has only one bad side effect: extra calories. Drinking alcohol is interconnected to weight gain through cortisol. Hormone cortisol is released by the body when the body is under stress (from alcohol) and in this case, cortisol is causing us to gain weight.

It is not just sugar in vodka or other drinks that will cause us to gain weight. It is the hormonal imbalance that cause us to gain weight.

Usually drinking is connected to bad nutrition and sleep deprivation that will cause man to get into hormonal imbalance. Intoxicated body is out of sync and balance. It is not a healthiest thing in the world. Body under alcohol is under extreme stress that is causing weight gain. And the cycle goes on and on. And weight is keeping accumulating.

Restaurant foods consist of highly refined, processed meats, fruits and vegetables, whose shelf life is measured in months and years. Food is full in chemical herbicides and pesticides, lacking organic approach to food farming.

And most of people do not know that “fresh and healthy” food is loaded with chemicals and food additives that makes them sick and lead to weight gain. Imagine now your tired body is fueled with unhealthy food choices loaded with chemicals. Your body is tired from busy modern life  in NYC and instead to nourish the body with healthy nutrition, man is loading foods in the body full of foods rich in chemicals.

Now the tired  body is lacking exercise and healthy nutrition is under constant stress that leads to detoriation in health and well being.

First we have to know what kills our immune system.

Immune system gets killed from following factors: Lack of sleep, day light and fresh air, sugar, over-training, stress, bad mood, alcohol and smoking.

Eat diet rich in vitamins and minerals. Do not forget about Zinc!

Zinc is one of the most important minerals used by our body for various functions. To give you an idea just how important it is, zinc helps in the production of about 100 enzymes in your body, builds you a healthy immune system, maintains your senses of smell and taste and is needed for DNA synthesis.

Zinc is pretty much associated with protein foods. The best sources of zinc include beef, lamb, pork, crabmeat, turkey, chicken, lobster, clams and salmon.
If you are a vegetarian you could eat dairy products such as milk and cheese, yeast, peanuts, beans, and wholegrain cereals, brown rice, whole wheat bread, potato and yogurt. Of all these vegetarian zinc foods, pumpkin seeds offer one of the most concentrated non-meat food sources of zinc.

Fitness Mango Salad

Everybody needs something sweet from time to time. Here is the perfect fitness salad for you. We all love sweet refreshing desserts. Let’s have one.

Ingredients:

* 2 mangoes
* 2 pink grapefruits
* 2 kiwis
* 2 tablespoons grated coconut
* 1 large orange
* 2 tablespoons honey
* A little fresh lemon zest

Preparation:
1. Peel the mangoes and cut them into finger-thick stripes
2. Peel grapefruit. Remove white skin as well.
3. Cut grapefruit into slices. Save dripping juice into a bowl. Peel kiwis and cut into thin slices.
4. Put shredded coconut in a nonstick pan without oil until golden brown. Remove from stove and let it cool.
5. Cut orange in half and squeeze juice. Mix orange juice with grapefruit juice and honey.
6. Mix Grapefruit slices, mango slices, and kiwi slices into a bowl. Cover it with marinade (from grapefruit, orange juices and honey). Cover the fitness salad with toasted coconut and lemon zest leaves.

You can serve this salad with yogurt or cottage cheese.

Last night I was watching a famous TV show and they were talking about diets. They wanted to “help you” to lose weight but their hidden motivation is to sell you diet products. In other words TV host was pushing weight loss products of this company.

The guy who was selling his products was a doctor and he said calorie is calorie. It really does not matter if you eat pizza or some other healthy meal. It is the same. Just reduce calories and you will lose weight.

Same people who promoted last year diets and weight loss pills are promoting this year same old repackaged products and diets. But with a new twist.

Here are few tips for you:
- Don’t let TV show hosts tell you what to eat. They are paid to tell you lies and promote products.
- Every segment on TV show is financed by some diet product. They will tell you a story that benefits them but not you.
- TV show hosts have no clue about diets. They are paid to promote products and trick you into buying products. That’s their job.
- Don’t be surprised if you see some doctors on TV telling you stories about diets. Even doctors and celebrities are involved into diet scams. They are diet mafia. They only want your money.
- Same marketing people who told you few years ago to buy stocks and houses are now marketing diet products. They switched the field. Be careful.

The truth is:
Low calories diets are not working. On TV they are telling you lies. Calorie counting is the biggest mistake you can make while dieting.
Your metabolism will be killed and when you start eating again you will gain back all water and muscle weight you lost plus you will gain 20 additional pounds.

Only way to lose weight is to increase your metabolism. You will increase your metabolism when you add few pounds of lean muscle with exercise. Plus you will have to focus on quality of your foods not on quantity.

ingredients are added to foods in the USA?

And it is sad fact that 90% of money we spend on food goes towards processed foods. Many companies market you supplements as a miracle foods, but the fact is it’s a just pure crap. Sorry to be honest!
Many sports supplements are loaded with additives, and instead to get the results they promise you, you will be polluting your body with the crap.

I will list some of the most medically questionable and harmful additives in everyday foods:

1. Sodium nitrite
2. BHA & BHT
3. Propyl gallate
4. Monosodium glutamate
5. Trans fats
6. Aspartame
7. Acesulfame-K
8. Food colorings (Blue, Red, Green, Yellow)
9. Olestra
10. Potassium bromate
11. White sugar
12. Sodium chloride (salt)

Sodium nitrite is a preservative added most commonly to bacon, turkey bacon, ham, hot dogs, sandwich meats, and smoked fish.

BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) are other preservatives added to foods like cereal, gum, potato chips, and vegetable oils. Did we not see cereal commercial telling us to eat cereal in order to lose weight?

Propyl gallate is found in meats, chicken soup base, and gum. All of these preservatives have been linked to cancer.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) can cause migraines and other adverse effects.

Trans fats are being eliminated from most foods, as the studies linking them to heart disease, strokes, and kidney problems are widely accepted.

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener found in products like NutraSweet and Equal as well as diet foods and soft drinks. And acesulfame-K is a newer sweetener used in soft drinks and some baked goods.

Many food colorings have been banned by the FDA, but some can still be found in foods that require a particular color. Olestra was common for a time in potato chips as an additive that prevented fat from being absorbed in your digestive system. Food colorings have been tied
to cancer and Olestra also blocks vitamins from being processed.

Potassium bromate is sometimes added to white flour, breads, and rolls to increase the volume of the products, but it has cancer-causing properties that have prompted some states in America to actually require a label to that effect.

Finally, white sugar and sodium chloride (salt) can be dangerous if not kept to a minimum. Many of these additives are linked to an increase in cancer risk.

One of the best ways to avoid food additives is to cut way back on the processed foods in your diet and instead focus your meals on whole foods. If you do eat processed foods, choose organic varieties and make sure to read the label and avoid foods that contain numerous
additives.

By keeping your diet as pure as possible, you’re giving your body the nutrients it needs without all of the added toxins it definitely doesn’t.

nothing better to wake up in the morning and have a huge protein packed breakfast that will refill your muscles and help you start the day right.
Well it is a Valentine Day soon and I figured out we are going to make an IRON MAN breakfast for your loved ones.

I made it super simple, so you can make it not just for Valentine day but from now on you can make it every day. We do not have so much time here in New York to make a big breakfast, that’s why I made is so simple and fast.

Iron Man Pancakes

Ingredients

4 egg whites
1 cup oats
1 scoop protein powder vanilla or chocolate
Fat Free cooking spray
2 packs splenda or stevia

Preparation

In your blender, mix the 4 egg whites, oatmeal, 1 scoop protein powder, 2 packs splenda or stevia. Blend for 1 minutes until the batter is done.

Preheat your pan on middle temperature. Once hot, use a ladle to pour one scoop of batter onto the pan.. Once bubbles appear on surface, flip the pancake to the other side for 1 minute.

You can now dress your pancake with some granola or the fruit you like (berries, kiwis, etc..)

Not just that your partner will love you but your muscles will be in love with you too!

I read daily a lot about different diet principles. Recently I am researching macrobiotic diet. I will share few principles about macrobiotic diet that I find very interesting. My friend Sachi is following a macrobiotic diet and she shared with me few principles of this diet.
Macrobiotic eating follows the principle of balance (called balancing yin and yang in China).
Macrobiotics holds that some foods are overstimulating and can exhaust the body and mind.
These are classified as extreme yin (stimulating) in their effects:
Sugar
Alcohol
Honey
Coffee
Chocolate
Refined flour products
Very hot spices
Chemicals and preservatives
Commercial milk, yogurt and soft cheeses
Poor quality vegetable oils
Foods that are considered to be concentrated, heavy and dense create stagnation.

These have yang (strengthening, but stagnating effects if over-consumed).
Poultry
Meat
Eggs
Refined salt

Foods that create balance are whole grains, vegetables, beans, sea vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds. Foods such as these are used in a macrobiotic diet.
The above implies that macrobiotics encourages the use of foodstuffs which are themselves balanced, rather than balancing the intake so that the amount of yin and of yang foods balances out.

I think that we can learn a lot from macrobiotic diet and we can start to incorporate some elements of this diet into our western lifestyle.

1. Increase your lean muscle mass. More lean muscle you have, more calories you will burn and weight loss will be fast. In order to gain muscle you have to exercise with weights. Forget pilates and yoga. Remember you have to come to the gym and apply some overload on your muscles.

2. Eat breakfast. “The most important meal of the day.”

According to studies, breakfast eaters are far less likely to get
heart disease, diabetes, or obesity. Also the feared metabolic
syndrome of abdominal fat, diabetes, and high cholesterol is reduced by 50% when you eat breakfast regularly. How simle is that?

3. Exercise in the AM hours because your hormones are high in the morning. If you exercise in the morning, you will burn more calories because your hormones are higher in AM hours.

4. Sleep well. If you do not sleep enough, your metabolism will slow down and you will get hungry during the day.
60% of Americans don’t sleep well. When you don’t sleep well you mess up your fat hormones.

5. Do not eat carbs before you go to the bed. Your hormones are very low at bedtime and if you eat carbs, they are going to turn into fat.

6. Eat more protein. You need to build muscle mass, and only you will build muscle if you eat enough protein.

7. Have a right nutrition plan. Know what you eat and how your body reacts to certain foods, educate yourself. Can you be honest and tell how much money you spend on all worthless supplements and fat burning pills?
Better use that money and hire a good nutritionist to develop your nutrition plan. You are investing in your health.

8. Reduce stress in your life.
Stress kills. And according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 90% of doctor visits are triggered by stress. When you are stressed out you mess uo your fat hormones and they will make you fat guaranteed!

9. Drink water all the time.
To keep your weight down you must keep drinking water. That’s why I advise my clients to actually carry a bottle of water with them at all times.

10. Environmental Pollution: The tons of synthetic chemicals in the environment disrupt the action of weight control hormones such as estrogen. And many more of these chemicals lurk in the air than ever before. It is very important to know what foods you eat and breath clean air.
