Facial Signs of bad nutrition

You Are What You Eat. Did you know that signs of bad nutrition will show off on your face?
Sometimes very basic facial diagnosis can actually reveal health and nutrition problems.

Redness on the face - it might be a high blood pressure. Possible thyroid problems also. Reduce Alcohol and stress.
White tongue - you might be dehydrated. Try to take vitamin B12 and iron.
Herpes on the lips - weak immune system. Eat more fruits and protein.
Cracked lips - you need iron. Eat beef, spinach and take vitamin C.
Red eyes - it might be a sign of inflammed joints or arthritis. You might supplement with fish oil and eat fish.
Dry skin - it is a sign of Vitamin C deficiency. Eat a lot of fruits like kiwi, oranges, lemon...
Dark rings under eyes - your kidneys might not work properly. Drink a lot of water.

If you have any of signs, you should check with your doctor. But most of the signs I mentioned above you can correct with the right nutrition.

Use your mind to lose weight

Albert Einstein said "You can't solve a problem with the same mind that created the problem."

Some people expect to train in the gym and thats all what they need to do to lose weight.
To lose weight you need more than diet and exercise. You need to change the way you thinking.
With the mind-set that caused you to gain weight, you can not expect that the same mind will solve a problem.
You have to be willing to make changes in your lifestyle and change your thinking process.
That's why I am using self Improvement and Motivation Strategies with my clients with a great success.
When you Change your Mind, You will Change your Life and than you will Change your Body!

All changes come from inside the body not from the outside.

You change from the inside out. Attitude Is Everything

Optimism and an ability to "roll with the punches" may be the keys to successful ageing, a new study suggest.
"People who think they are aging well are not necessarily the most healthy individuals," Jeste said. "In fact, optimism and effective coping styles were found to be more important to aging successfully than traditional measures of health and wellness. These findings suggest that physical health is not the best indicator of successful aging -- attitude is." - Dr Dilip Jeste, professor of psychiatry and neurosciences at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.

As you can see not only physical exercise and diet contributes to your healthy aging. You gotta have a positive attitude too. The best we can do to have a successful ageing is to exercise, increase activity through participation in sport , eat healthy and have a good attitude.

We eat more and gain weight in winter

I was writing about weight gain in winter 3 months ago here on my blog.
Our body needs a lot of energy to heat up the body, so we feel hungry and we eat more to keep the energy levels up.
Now the latest research is confirming that people eating more in autumn and winter.

"In anticipation of the possible weight gain during long winter months, individuals need to maintain energy balance," study author Dr Yunsheng Ma, of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, said.
"To avoid the winter weight gain, individuals need to be conscious of their diet and physical activity in the winter.
Energy in - food intake - must be equal to energy out - mainly physical activity - to avoid weight gain.
Many individuals never lose that holiday pound, and in 10 years, this becomes 10 pounds, which can impact health," Dr Ma said in a university statement.

What we need to do in winter to maintain a healthy weight? Increase your exercise frequency per week, avoid fatty foods and watch out your carbs intake.

Dark chocolate is good for the heart?

Few squares of dark chocolate every day could help stave off heart disease, researchers have found.

Its anti-oxidants may prevent arteries narrowing and hardening, according to the team from Switzerland.
Scientist conclude: "A small daily treat of dark chocolate may substantially increase the amount of anti-oxidant intake and beneficially affect vascular health."
They come every month with something new. Few months ago they were telling us that chocolate can kill you if eaten every day. Now they are telling us something new.
If you want to get anti-oxidants from the chocolate, buy cocoa powder and stir into your protein shake. On this way you will avoid the fat content and sugar.

In my opinion chocolate will not save your heart. Right diet and exercise will. Scientist are coming every day with something new, but they have no wisdom.
Science is good, wisdom is the best.

Diet character - whats yours?

Your character is not inherited. One builds it daily. The way you choose what to eat daily is your choise. You choose the food you eat every single day. And you build your character daily, every minute, the way you think and act.
How do you react to fear and anger? What do you do in those situations? Do you go to the kitchen and eat to feel better? Do not let your anger control your actions. Instead try to control your anger, on that way you will build your character that will effect your health. Avoiding these landmines will take positive effect on your health.

Men Easier To Please With Regard To Body Image Than Women

Based on the study from McMaster University, men are easier to please with the results in the gym.
Men are just lucky if they get stronger in the gym and feel their pants are fitting better. But how about the women?
Well they want the proof. You gotta prove them that they lost body fat to make them happy. For women it is not enough just to see that they can lift heavier weight. They want the real proof. So if you are a personal trainer, better meassure the body fat percentage if you want your women clients happy. They like to see the proof (truth).

Kathleen Martin Ginis, associate professor of kinesiology:
"We thought - obviously incorrectly - that women's body image would improve more than men's as they progressed through the strength training study," Martin Ginis said. "We were surprised by the responsiveness of men's body image to strength training. Men's body image improved as much as women's. Yet interestingly, men didn't care about numbers--how much weight they actually lost or how much muscle they actually gained had no bearing on their body image; if they simply felt more muscular and stronger, or if their pants were looser, that was good enough to improve their body image. But when it came to the women, feeling thinner and stronger was only part of the story. The women who had the greatest improvements in body image were those who saw actual increases in the amount of weight they could lift at the gym."

Women believe only that they are beautiful, if one says clearly to them and prove them with numbers.

Body rented from Hertz

Many people treat their bodies as if they were rented from Hertz -- something
they are using to get around in but nothing they genuinely care about
understanding. - Chungliang Al Huang

I like this quotation a lot.
And from my point of view it it true. Some people really do not care a lot about their bodies. They do not care about the food they put in their mouth. They threat it
like it is rented, but when the sickness comes they try to find out what went wrong and trying to find a pill that will cure it.

Wine Doesn't Help Your Heart as Previously Believed

Belinda Linden, head of medical information at the British Heart Foundation says the study suggests that light to moderate alcohol consumption may only give a small amount of protection against coronary heart disease, while the benefits of moderate to heavy drinking are likely to be outweighed by the overall harm that alcohol can cause.
She also says there does not appear to be any evidence to suggest that light to moderate alcohol consumption will actually harm the heart, however over indulging can have an adverse effect on your health.
Linden says people should not be encouraged to start drinking specifically to protect their heart, as there are much safer options and their advice remains that the best way to reduce the risk of heart disease is to quit smoking if you smoke, increase levels of physical activity and eat a healthy balanced diet.

Hot spicy foods raise metabolism

Hot spicy foods raise your metabolism. And because of that body will burn more calories.
Eat chilli peppers, jalapenos, cayenne peppers ...
Well this is not a myth like many people think.
Capsaicin is contained in chilli peppers.
Capsaicin energizes the gastric juice glands and ensures that harmful bacteria in the digestive tract is killed.
In addition the red peppers bring stomach and intestine in momentum and provide better food digesting.
Research also shows that cayenne peppers increase production of epinephrine and norepinephrine which together decrease appetite.

Fat cells explained. Fat cells are destroying your health

Fat cells are killing us because they cause diseases.
Did you know that fat cells send signals that promote blood vessel and cell growth, which could help explain why fat gain increases the risk of cancer. Obesity is linked to diabetes and cancer. We heard it in news so many times. But why is that? How fat cells are damaging our bodies?

An adult has between 40 and 120 billion fat cells, depends on the body structure.
In every fat cell we find one drop of oil that is used as energy storage for hunger times. What else can we find in fat cells? Anything else? There are hormones, inflammation substances and many more substances. Scientist identified about 100 different substances in fett cells. Many of them play a role with
inflammations (example: Zytokine) or with the regulatation of the blood pressure (Angiotensin II).
Why is this important?
Fat is the biggest endocrine organ in the body.
Many overweight people have large numbers of fat cells and those cells hold many substances. And many of those substances are harmful in higher concentration. They can cause inflammation in your body.
Fat cells are also an important control unit for many organs. Example: Fat cells are signaling muscles when they can burn fat.
Beyond that fat cells are important control units for many metabolic procedures in your body, they affect the function of the brain,
the liver, the pancreas and the immune system.
The fatty tissue plays a very important role as a hormone producer and controls long term fertility and energy balance.
Fat cells produce powerful substances called tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a), and interleukin-6 (IL-6), which help regulate the immune system.

An important hormone, which is formed in fat cells, is Leptin (discovered 10 years ago).
If leptin levels are high in your blood, it signals a saturation feeling to the brain. If the levels of leptin sink, it signals hunger.
Many of the substances discovered in fat cells seem to play the role of messenger in your body, with whose assistance fat cells with other organs communicate.
When you are in a good shape and you have normal weight, it seems everything to works perfectly within your body so the fat cells can communicate with other organs.

But what happens when we are overweight?

Giant fat cells produce to many messenger substances and can overflow other body signals. Example what can happen: insulin does not work correctly any longer.

What happens with excessively increased fat cells?
It begins mass production of inflammation materials.
Obesity leads to chronic inflammation.
What else happens withing the body?
Fat cells cause insulin resistance.
Many of the inflammation materials from the fat cells are causing the insulin resistance to.
As you can see fat cells are a whole complex system. They are not just a passive organ! Not just that they look ugly, make us look ugly, they have ugly consequences for our health.
Especially is bad for your health to have a lot of fat around waist area.
Those fat cells around your abs are very activ. They produce
free fatty acids, inflammation materials and blood pressure increasing materials. So if you have a lot of fat around your belly, it is time to lose it. You can see what fat can do to your health. It can ruin it.
I hope that I did not scare you a lot. There is some good news: The production of the substances in fat cells can be reversed with the right diet and exercise. If fat cells become smaller and you lose them, than the production of the health dangerous substances is reduced.
And on the end I would like to add an opinion from a professor of genetics and metabolism at the Harvard School of Public Health:
"Many people think your brain controls your fat. We promote the idea that your fat controls your brain."
