NO to STEROIDS T Shirt

Say No To Steroids T Shirt

New York Mets pitcher Yusaku Iriki was suspended 50 games for testing positive for steroids, becoming the first major-leaguer this year to be banned for taking performance-enhancing drugs.

Health Hazards

The major side effects from abusing anabolic steroids can include liver tumors and cancer, jaundice (yellowish pigmentation of skin, tissues, and body fluids), fluid retention, high blood pressure, increases in LDL (bad cholesterol), and decreases in HDL (good cholesterol). Other side effects include kidney tumors, severe acne, and trembling. In addition, there are some gender-specific side effects:
For men — shrinking of the testicles, reduced sperm count, infertility, baldness, development of breasts, increased risk for prostate cancer.

For women — growth of facial hair, male-pattern baldness, changes in or cessation of the menstrual cycle, enlargement of the clitoris, deepened voice.

For adolescents — growth halted prematurely through premature skeletal maturation and accelerated puberty changes. This means that adolescents risk remaining short for the remainder of their lives if they take anabolic steroids before the typical adolescent growth spurt.

In addition, people who inject anabolic steroids run the added risk of contracting or transmitting HIV/AIDS or hepatitis, which causes serious damage to the liver.

Scientific research also shows that aggression and other psychiatric side effects may result from abuse of anabolic steroids. Many users report feeling good about themselves while on anabolic steroids, but researchers report that extreme mood swings also can occur, including manic-like symptoms leading to violence. Depression often is seen when the drugs are stopped and may contribute to dependence on anabolic steroids. Researchers report also that users may suffer from paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment stemming from feelings of invincibility.

Small changes could increase life expectancy

Making small changes such as quitting smoking, exercising more and eating better could increase your life expectancy by 11 to 12 years, says a study.
Researchers led by Professor Kay-Tee Khaw studied 25,663 men and women aged between 45 and 79 years from 1993 onwards in Norfolk and found small lifestyle changes could have a significant impact on how long you live, reported the online edition of BBC news.

The study that looked into their diet, environment, lifestyle and health asked participants to regularly fill questionnaires about these and had periodic check-ups from nurses.

Results from the study showed eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day can give you the life expectancy of someone three years younger.

Not smoking can turn the clock back by four to five years.

Even increasing exercise by a moderate amount can take up to three years off. But the amount of exercise someone would need to do to achieve that depends on his or her job.

An office worker would need to do one hour of exercise, such as swimming or jogging, every day, while a person with a moderately active job, such as a hairdresser, would need 30 minutes exercise a day.

People with active jobs, including nurses and bricklayers, do not need to do any extra exercise - as their work is strenuous enough.

'Many of us find it difficult to change our usual lifestyle,' said Khaw.

'However, there is increasing evidence that even relatively small changes can make a big difference to our health and well being,' he added.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU REPEATEDLY DO

First you make your habits, and then your habits make you.
You become a slave to your constantly repeated acts.
What at first you choose, at last compels.

Your habits are either the best of servants or the worst of masters.
Your thoughts lead you on to a purpose,
your purposes go forth in action.

Your actions form your habits.
Your habits determine your character,
and your character fixes your destiny.

Once in motion, a pattern stays in motion.

Happy Easter

I would like to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Easter. Eat lots of sugar free chocolate, drink lots of wine and have a great day. Anyway, I'm off to stuff my face with chocolate eggs, roast dinner and engage in conversation with friends and family. Happy Easter!

Why You Should Never Eat French Fries

I read this morning an article about french fries.

French Fries Contain Trans Fats And Eating French Fries

Frying up our food is sure tasty, but Trans Fats or Trans Fatty Acids are what turns a potato into a ticking-timebomb for heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Not all fats are just "Good Fats" and "Bad Fats." Fats also come in the "Damaged Fats" category. Damaged Fats act as carcinogens in the body.

French fries have high levels of acrylamide, reported to be a possible cancer-causing substance.

How you treat a waiter can predict a lot about character

There’s a nice article in USA Today about “The Waiter Rule” - that you can tell alot about a person’s character by how they interact with waitstaff and others in service roles (ex:personal trainers, etc...)

Are Pharmaceutical Companies Inventing Diseases, New Study Suggests They Are

MORE and more human characteristics are becoming "medicalised" to help boost the bank balances of drug companies, a physician has warned.
Professor David Henry said too many simply unhappy people are being classified as depressed, while healthy but slightly overweight people are being told they have a disorder.

He said that while there are genuine cases of depression, obesity and other problems like erectile dysfunction, many people are the victims of what he calls "disease mongering."

Cholesterol Linked to Prostate Cancer

Researchers may have found a direct link between high cholesterol and prostate cancer.

Researchers in Italy studied almost 1,300 men over an 11 year period. They found that the men with prostate cancer were about fifty percent more likely to have had high cholesterol levels than those without prostate cancer.

Doctors say the connection is even stronger for men whose high cholesterol was diagnosed before the age of fifty, and for men over age 65 who have hypertension.
